What is the IELTS Test:

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test that measures your ability to communicate in English. It is used by universities, employers, and immigration authorities to determine your level of English proficiency.

Types of IELTS Test:

There are two types of IELTS tests:  Academic and General Training.

Academic test is for those who want to study at a university or college in an English-speaking country.

General Training test is for those who want to work or immigrate to an English-speaking country.

Academic Test:

The Academic test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening and Reading sections are the same for both the Academic and General Training tests. The Writing and Speaking sections are different.

General Training Test:

The General Training test also consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. However, the topics and tasks in the Writing and Speaking sections are different from the Academic test.

Scoring:

The IELTS test is scored on a scale of 0-9. Each section is scored individually, and then an overall band score is calculated. The band score is an average of the four sections. For graduate programs, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5
